Austin, Texas becomes a melting pot of creativity and innovation for a few days in March. The South by Southwest® (SXSW®) calls, and everyone responds: 100,000 visitors, more than 60 percent of whom are from outside the country, and more than 7,500 representatives of the media are expected. More than 600 events attract visitors with presentations on subjects ranging from artificial intelligence to the future of work, making the SXSW one of the world's biggest and most well-known digital conventions. Its appeal stems from its unusual mix of exhibitions, festivals and conferences. And it is increasingly becoming a meeting place for the technology and start-up scene.

Daimler is presenting itself and its Mercedes-Benz, smart, moovel and car2go brands in Austin with workshops, virtual reality installations and group discussions on key topics for the future. smart, for example, is welcoming renowned creatives, experts and opinion makers to its "house of smart" in order to talk to them about the cities of tomorrow.

Daimler's CEO Dieter Zetsche is invited as a SXSW featured speaker, and will discuss the importance of digital maps for the future of mobility. High-precision data is one of the cornerstone technologies for autonomous driving and networked, zero-emissions vehicles, and therefore also very important for the company's CASE strategy.

Passengers in the "FlyingLab" can already get in the mood for the South by Southwest on their way to Austin. On board a Lufthansa Airbus A 380 there are live presentations from digital experts and futurologists, including Daimler's Alexander Mankowsky. Dieter Zetsche also provided a look at current and future innovations in the field of mobility in the form of a special video to complement the safety instructions provided by the crew.

Premiere at IAA: International me Convention

Dieter Zetsche: "Mercedes-Benz is excited to work with SXSW to create a brand new, future-focused event in Germany."

Furthermore, Daimler announced a collaboration with the SXSW bosses in Austin. Both will for the first time organize the me Convention, which will take place September 15 to 17 in Frankfurt during the International Motor Show (IAA). The me Convention is seen as an open and inspiring platform for creative folks from all manner of fields, with a clear focus on dialog, interaction, networking, and entertainment.
