Daimler Scores Overall Victory in Michelin Challenge Bibendum

With a total of 23 distinctions, Daimler was the most successful participant at the Michelin Challenge Bibendum in Shanghai, China, last November. Seven cars from the Mercedes-Benz and smart brands faced up to the competition in the different disciplines of the world’s most important event in the field of sustainable mobility. Some 80 participating cars were put to the test in the categories of “acceleration,” “maneuverability,” “noise pollution,” “local pollution,” “fuel efficiency,” and “CO2 emissions.” The Mercedes-Benz and smart vehicles were honored as follows:

E 300 BlueTEC: the world’s cleanest diesel drive received three awards in the categories “acceleration,” “maneuverability,” and “local pollution”; it also finished in first place in the 170-kilometer-long rally for production cars.

E 200 NGT: the natural-gas car received four awards in the categories “acceleration,” “local pollution,” “fuel efficiency,” and “CO2 emissions.”

A-Class F-Cell: three awards went to the two participating fuel cell vehicles in the categories “local pollution,” “fuel efficiency,” and “CO2 emissions.”

F 600: two awards went to the research vehicle (photo) in the categories “local pollution” and “CO2 emissions”; the F 600 also received a design award in the “prototype passenger car” category.

smart fortwo mhd: two awards were picked up by the micro hybrid drive with a start/stop function in the categories “noise pollution” and “local pollution.”

smart fortwo cdi: the two-seater powered by SunDiesel biofuel received three awards in the categories “noise pollution,” “fuel efficiency,” and “CO2 emissions;” the smart also received a design award in the “production car” category.
