Blue Tec gets more
The solution to rising fuel costs and more stringent emissions standards is BlueTec. This clean diesel technology developed by Daimler reduces the emissions of commercial vehicles and yet remains cost-efficient, practical and future-proof. Since its market launch in 2005, over 210,000 of our trucks and buses now make use of the innovative BlueTec technology.
- Gets more performance from every drop of diesel
- Gets rid of more pollutants from exhaust gases
- Gets more profitability from every kilometer covered

BlueTec: Euro 5 for all
BlueTec, which uses the additive AdBlue to optimize combustion and exhaust gas aftertreatment, now already fulfils tomorrow’s stringent European emissions standards. These so-called BlueTec-5 vehicles are now available for a wide range of operations – including heavy-duty trucks for long-distance transportation, light trucks for short-range distribution and buses. As a result, a range of economic and eco-friendly vehicles is now already available to the transportation industry well ahead of the introduction of the mandatory European Euro 5 emissions standard. The BlueTec technology thus also forms the basis for the next stage of emissions legislation, Euro 6. Moreover, we use it as a basis for meeting the future stringent EPA 10 and JP 09 emissions regulations of the NAFTA states and Japan respectively.
BlueTec technology
BlueTec combines internal engine solutions designed to reduce emissions with post-engine treatment – an approach known as Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), which considerably reduces the emission of noxious nitrogen oxides. Increased peak ignition pressure and compression ratio create improved conditions in the engine for combustion, higher output and lower particulate emissions. Careful injection of the non-poisonous and odorless urea solution “AdBlue” into the hot exhaust line results in the release of ammonia, which reduces the nitrogen oxides in the catalytic converter to harmless nitrogen and steam.

BlueTec in Asia
Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) is the first company in Southeast Asia to put Mercedes-Benz urban buses with BlueTec 5 into operation in short-distance public transport. This means that the BlueTec diesel technology so successfully introduced by Daimler in Europe now also has a presence in Asia. And with an order for 66 Mercedes-Benz Citaro BlueTec urban buses that meet the stringent Euro 5 exhaust standard, the SMRT Corporation in Singapore is setting new benchmarks in Southeast Asia. | |
