In striving to achieve zero-emission mobility, Mercedes-Benz offers a wide variety of technologies: optimized combustion engines, hybrid vehicles, electric drives with fuel cells or even purely electric-driven vehicles. The BlueEFFICIENCY technologies are also a package of measures which can further reduce energy consumption and therefore CO2 emissions for all passenger car and van models. Whether it’s the automatic start/stop function, electrically assisted power steering, low-rolling-resistance tires, aerodynamic refinements, intelligent lightweight engineering, gear-shifting and fuel consumption display or engines with lower displacement and turbochargers: on balance, vehicles benefiting from a holistic optimization approach use so little fuel that drivers feel the benefit in their wallets. In a nutshell: at Mercedes-Benz, BlueEFFICIENCY stands for the concept of efficient mobility.

Safe, comfortable, efficient – the new E Class sets standards in efficiency and environmental compatibility with up to 23 percent lower fuel consumption compared with its predecessor. In recognition of their BlueEFFICIENCY badge, two-thirds of the new E-Class models boast fuel consumptions from as low as 5.3 liters per 100 kilometers and CO2 emission levels from 139 grams per kilometer.

Saving with the start/stop function
The A and B-Class BlueEFFICIENCY models feature an ECO start/stop function which reduces fuel consumption. The engine automatically switches off when waiting at red lights – and then comes back on when you are ready to drive off.
