S 400 HYBRID: the three-way effect
The S 400 HYBRID is the first series production vehicle featuring a high-performance lithium-ion battery suitable for everyday use. With its innovative battery and compact hybrid module with disc-shaped electric motor, the system offers a double benefit: the electric motor not only acts as a starter, but can also back up the modified V6 gasoline engine during the acceleration phase (boost function), or can even recover energy during braking and feed this to the lithium-ion battery (recuperation). With the S 400 HYBRID, Mercedes-Benz is launching the first passenger-car model featuring a hybrid drive onto the market. With a fuel consumption of just 7.9 liters per 100 kilometers (NEDC), the executive sedan is the world's CO2 champion in its segment.

A perfect combination The Mercedes-Benz engineers have succeeded in accommodating all of the necessary hybrid components into the engine compartment of the new S 400 HYBRID. For the occupants, this therefore means that there are no restrictions when it comes to space or comfort. Even the full capacity of the trunk remains available.
