AMG – Hand-crafted Engineering and Top-class Performance
AMG – these three distinctive letters stand for top automobile performance the world over, exclusivity and dynamic driving pleasure. AMG was founded in 1967 by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher and celebrates its forty-fifth birthday in 2012; it now boasts more than 1000 employees at its original site in Affalterbach, Germany. AMG manifests its image as the successful performance brand of Mercedes-Benz with impressive achievements in motorsport and unique vehicle models. Today AMG is a one hundred percent subsidiary of Daimler AG and the technological figurehead of the group in the high-performance car sector. The AMG brand promise, "Driving Performance", stands for cutting-edge technology and exciting driving.

In 1990, Daimler-Benz AG, as it was then called, and AMG signed a cooperation contract, which was followed in 1993 by the C 36 AMG, the first jointly developed vehicle. A step-by-step integration of AMG into the Daimler group began in 1999 and was successfully concluded in 2005.
Today Mercedes-AMG GmbH is solidly rooted in the development processes of Mercedes-Benz, offering a unique portfolio of high-performance cars. The range available at the time of the anniversary comprises 22 AMG high-performance vehicles with outputs ranging from 310 kW (422 hp) to 463 kW (630 hp). The selection ranges from saloons, coupés, SUVs and roadsters right up to the SLS AMG, the first vehicle developed independently by Mercedes-AMG.
Exclusive special equipment from the Performance Studio provides AMG vehicles with even more personality: the AMG Performance Studio develops and produces individual AMG cars in exclusive small quantities – a trend which is increasing in demand. The super-sporty Black Series vehicles are almost legendary. The AMG Performance Studio fulfils individual customer wishes, supplying one-off automobiles of perfect quality and craftsmanship which meet stringent Mercedes-Benz safety standards.
Each AMG is a thoroughbred performance car, which arouses fascination thanks to its unique power delivery, seductive engine sound, excellent handling and direct driving feel. As part of the "AMG Performance 50" strategy, each new AMG model strives for market leadership in terms of fuel consumption and emissions. Many AMG cars are already "best in class" in terms of consumption, emissions, top performance and torque. The new SLK 55 AMG provides impressive proof: the V8 engine with the lowest fuel consumption in the world is astounding, with its AMG Cylinder Management cylinder shut-off function, a technology inspired by Formula 1.
Born into the world of motorsport, the AMG performance brand has been at home on the race track for several decades now: as a regular successful competitor in the popular DTM series, as two-time world champion in the FIA GT and with active involvement in motor sport for private customers at the highest level with the SLS AMG GT3. Starting from the 2012 season, the AMG brand is also represented in Formula 1 by the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Team and the MERCEDES AMG High Performance Powertrains engine manufacturer. Since 1996, AMG has always provided both the Formula 1 Safety Car and the Formula 1 Medical Car.
Performance lovers can also gain their first very own hands-on race track experience at events organised by the AMG Driving Academy. The range includes pleasant EMOTION tours, special winter driving training courses in Lapland, Sweden or exciting performance events on legendary race tracks such as the Nürburgring's Nordschleife: the range of unique driver training courses and events is more widely varied than ever.
