Villa Mercedes in Nice, ca. 1900 |
The family's main residence was in Baden, near Vienna. The Villa Mercedes was built in the mid-19th century. Shortly after the end of the Second World War it had to make way for a new building. Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft delivered its first 35 hp Mercedes to Nice in December 1900; from Nice, after winning two races in 1901 the "Mercedes" brand set out on its triumphant career.
