Filed by Carl Benz at the German Imperial Patent Office in Berlin on 29 January 1886, patent “DRP 37435” for a “three-wheeled vehicle powered by a gas engine” is regarded as the birth certificate of the motor vehicle and was declared a world heritage document by Unesco in 2011.
