Dr. Jürgen Hambrecht was born 1946 in Reutlingen. He studied chemistry in Tübingen and was awarded his doctorate in organic chemistry in 1975.
Jürgen Hambrecht is Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE.
In 1976 Dr. Hambrecht joined the BASF Polymers Laboratory, responsible for polystyrene, styrenic copolymers and polyphenylene ethers. In 1985 he became Head of Research and Purchasing at Lacke und Farben AG, Münster, Germany (now BASF Coatings AG). In 1990 he appointed President of Engineering Plastics division. In 1995 he became President of the East Asia division, based in Hong Kong.
In 1997 Jürgen Hambrecht was appointed as member of the Board of Executive Directors. Since 2003 he has been Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE.
Dr. Hambrecht is member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and officiates in industry associations, i.a. being Vice-Chairman of various committees of the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) and as Chairman of the BDI (Federation of German Industries) related Asia-Pacific-Committee of German Business.
