The Daimler subsidiary car2go is consistently expanding its presence in North America. Following the launch two weeks ago in Toronto, Canada, car2go is now starting operation in Calgary as the third city in Canada. 150 economical and environmentally friendly smart fortwo vehicles are now available there for fully flexible short-term rental. This means that car2go can now be used in 13 cities worldwide. At the end of July Miami in the US state of Florida will be added and other cities are in preparation.
At the same time car2go in Vancouver took positive stock of the first year. In the Olympic city around 15,000 registered customers regularly use the blue and white smart fortwo car2go edition. In an average week the vehicles are driven 15,000 times. Due to the great demand the fleet was enlarged from 225 vehicles initially to more than 300 vehicles and the operating area was expanded to 70 square kilometres.
The pioneer and market leader in the area of fully flexible car rental systems has also seen an extremely successful start in the US capital Washington. In the first 100 days more than 8500 customers registered with car2go. Due to the great demand the number of vehicles in Washington has already been increased from 200 to a total of 300 smart fortwos.
