Daimler South East Asia (DSEA), located in Singapore, is an important Daimler facility in Asia Pacific. DSEA plays a pivotal role for the business development in Singapore and General Distributor markets in South Asia. In the 1950’s and the 1960’s, Mercedes-Benz vehicles were sold via authorized importers and dealers throughout South East Asia. Support and marketing offices have been in the region since the 1960’s.
In 1990, Mercedes-Benz Asia was founded in Singapore for sales and aftersales support.
In 1995, a (Daimler-Benz) Representative Office was set up in Singapore to oversee ASEAN businesses. Also in 1995, Daimler-Benz interServices (debis), now Daimler Financial Services, set up its Representative Office in Singapore, to establish sales support through financial services for Daimler products in the entire Asia Pacific region.
In 1998, five Regional centers were established in Asia Pacific: Japan, North East Asia, Australia/Pacific and SEA I and SEA II (located in Singapore and Bangkok respectively).
In 1999, the SEA II Regional Center in Bangkok was integrated into the Regional Center in Singapore. In the same year, the Mercedes-Benz Asia operations were merged with Chrysler Asia operations. In June 1999, DaimlerChrysler South East Asia was set up out of the Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler companies, with merged functions such as control, general administration and other support functions.
Since 2002, Daimler South East Asia has covered business operations in 12 Asian countries, viz. the 10 ASEAN countries, Taiwan and Korea.
In December 2004 the Daimler Financial Services in the Asia Pacific region was expanded by reassigning the operations in South Africa, Israel and Turkey to the new region Africa & Asia Pacific.
In 2005, the office in Taiwan and Korea relocated to China.
In 2006 new management structure, DCSEA is reporting to DCAA in Germany, new General Distributor markets like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.
