DaimlerChrysler’s environmental policy is expressed in specific guidelines. Clear structures, processes and areas of responsibility have been established in order to reach the targets of corporate environmental policy and to ensure continuous improvement of the Group’s environmental protection performance.

On behalf of DaimlerChrysler’s Board of Management, the Board member responsible for Group Research and Mercedes Car Group Development is also charged with the company’s environmental protection matters. In addition, a Chief Environmental Officer is appointed to coordinate activities across the Group. The Board of Management has also commissioned the Chief Environmental Officer to oversee the central environmental management system. To assist in this task, the following two cross-divisional committees have been set up in addition to the Central Environmental Protection function (GR/VGE):

These two central committees define targets and manage and control the environmentally relevant processes in the development, planning and manufacture of products. Their decisions are based on the Environmental Management Manual adopted by the DaimlerChrysler Group in 2003. This manual establishes a uniform framework for environmental management throughout the Group, ensuring the implementation of standardized processes and compliance with internal and external requirements.
