Research and product development
One focus of research and development work at DaimlerChrysler is the refinement of conventional drive technologies in order to produce even cleaner and more efficient engines. From the Group’s perspective, fuel cell technology is the most promising drive technology for the long-term reduction of fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and exhaust emissions. In the short and medium terms, research is concentrating on the optimization of internal combustion engines and the targeted use of hybrid technology. Complementary measures include optimizing vehicle weights and using lightweight engineering designs.
