Human rights
DaimlerChrysler is committed to upholding human rights. That is why human rights aspects and ways of dealing with them are included in the DaimlerChrysler standards of business conduct. Reference texts in this regard include, in particular, the “Tripartite Declaration Concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy” of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the OECD Guidelines. The contents of these documents have been, in part, implicitly or explicitly adopted in DaimlerChrysler’s own regulations, such as the Integrity Code and the principles of social responsibility. p.12 ff.
This is illustrated by the following examples:
  • The issues of freedom of association, collective bargaining and the condemnation of child labor are dealt with in the principles of social responsibility.
  • Activities that affect DaimlerChrysler’s suppliers are mainly handled within the worldwide purchasing organization Global Procurement & Supply. In line with the corporate principles of social responsibility, the company expects its suppliers to adhere to comparable principles as the basis for their sustainable business activities.
  • The internal security department is responsible for the Group’s security personnel (including training programs focusing on human rights issues).
As specified in the section “Risk Management and Compliance” p.14 ff., DaimlerChrysler uses a variety of instruments to monitor its business operations with regard to the upholding of human rights. This task is mainly performed by the Corporate Audit and the Legal departments and the Corporate Compliance Operations unit on the basis of legal regulations and the internal guidelines. Dialogue with the World Employee Committee and other internal institutions plays an important supporting role in this connection. p.15 ff.
