Imagine if everyone in the car could operate his or her own personal entertainment and information program: a bird’s-eye view of the route for the driver; Internet access so that the front-seat passenger can find a good restaurant on the way; and films, music, and videos for the passengers in the back seat.
Daimler researchers Christian Maihöfer (right) and Alexander Leonhardi (left) from Group Development are working together to achieve this vision of a telematics, information, and entertainment system for automobiles. Their “office” here is the Multi-Seat Demonstrator, which can be used to test, vary, and improve hardware and software components for future infotainment systems.
The job of Maihöfer and his colleagues from the Infotainment and Telematics unit at Group Research and Advanced Development is to come up with new concepts, devices, and software, and then to bring them to the series production stage.
Leonhardi and his colleagues from the Electrical/Electronic Telematics unit at Mercedes-Benz Cars Development are responsible for ensuring that innovative technologies and new features reach the proper level of advancement for the planned series production on time.
