Silvretta Classic 2015: legendary sports cars of the 1950s: Mercedes-Benz Classic at the automotive summit
Outstanding Mercedes-Benz sports cars of the 1950s from the corporate collection will be taking to the starting line at the Silvretta Classic 2015: models in the guise of the 300 SL racing sports car (W 194), 190 SL (W 121 II) in racing trim and an exclusive 300 Sc Roadster (W 188 II) will provide highlights at the 18th edition of the vintage car rally.

Indy 2015: Original Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix winning car in the pre-event: Triumph in Indianapolis: DePalma wins in a Mercedes in 1915
On 31 May 1915, Ralph DePalma won the 500-mile race in Indianapolis driving a Mercedes Grand Prix car. A major dream had come true for the racing driver born in Italy in 1882. In 1912, he had narrowly failed to win victory in the Indianapolis 500 owing to a technical defect. His victory in the fifth of these legendary races crowned a whole series of successes that DePalma notched up in one of the vehicles with which the Mercedes team of 1914 had achieved the historic triple victory in the French Grand Prix.

2015: Mercedes-Benz celebrates 60th anniversary of the Mille Miglia victory of 1955: Stirling Moss and Hans Herrmann in the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR
Some 60 years after Mercedes-Benz’s triumph at the Mille Miglia, three of the greatest heroes of the thousand-mile race in 1955 are returning to the route between Brescia and Rome: together with the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR (W 196 S) racing car, Mercedes-Benz racing drivers Stirling Moss and Hans Herrmann are remembering the 1955 race at this year’s Mille Miglia event, which is being held between 14 and 17 May 2015.

The most successful motor sport season for Mercedes-Benz until today - 1955: Silver Arrows heading for victory
60 years ago, the Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows were practically unbeatable throughout the entire racing season – in all the major classes of international motor sport: in 1955, the Stuttgart racing team with Juan Manuel Fangio at the wheel of the W 196 R won the Formula 1 world championship for the second time running and achieved a triumph in the sports car world championship with the 300 SLR (W 196 S), while Werner Engel became European touring car champion in the 300 SL (W 198) production sports car.

60 years ago, Stirling Moss won the “Mille Miglia” in Italy in the best time ever achieved in the legendary 1,000-mile race, at the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR racing sports car with the starting number 722. The winning vehicle is now set to be the star of Mercedes-Benz Classic’s appearance in hall 1 at the Techno Classica show, which will take place at the Messe Essen exhibition centre from 15 to 19 April 2015.

The history of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
In the 1950s, a very special star rose in Stuttgart: the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class was born. It all began with motor racing sports. With its successes in international competitions, in 1952 the 300 SL competition sports car (W 194 series, “SL” stands for “Super-Light”), became the initial spark for the start of two fascinating production sports cars – the “Gullwing” coupé and the roadster: the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and 190 SL laid the foundation for the tradition of this legendary sports car family in the year 1954.
