90 years ago: Mercedes triumphs in 1924 Targa Florio and Coppa Florio
A mountainous course along narrow roads with over 7,000 bends before the gates of Palermo in Sicily, Italy: welcome to the Targa Florio. This was a highly popular and demanding road race especially in the first half of the last century. In 1924, one lap was 108 kilometres in length.

Mercedes-Benz the winner in six categories of the “Motor Klassik Award” 2014
Mercedes-Benz is the winner in no less than six categories of the Motor Klassik Award: In 2014, the readers of the classic vehicle magazine “Motor Klassik” voted the supercharged SSK sports car, the 300 SL “Gullwing” Coupé (W 198), the W 25 (1934) and W 196 R (1954) racing cars, and the G-Class as winners.

Great history: The C-Class and motorsport
The career of the current C-Class as a motorsport star began with the record-breaking drive completed by the 190 E 2.3-16 model in Nardò, southern Italy (13 to 21 August 1983). This was also the first major test for the new engine with four valves per cylinder and 136 kW (185 hp).

The history of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
In the 1950s, a very special star rose in Stuttgart: the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class was born. It all began with motor racing sports. With its successes in international competitions, in 1952 the 300 SL competition sports car (W 194 series, “SL” stands for “Super-Light”), became the initial spark for the start of two fascinating production sports cars – the “Gullwing” coupé and the roadster: the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and 190 SL laid the foundation for the tradition of this legendary sports car family in the year 1954.

Premiere of new ‘Fintail’ from Mercedes-Benz Classic at the Nürburgring
A ‘Fintail’ based on the Mercedes-Benz 220 SE model (W 111 series) will compete in the season final of the long-distance cup organised by Fahrergemeinschaft Historischer Rennsport e.V. (FHR) on 22 and 23 October 2011 at the Nürburgring. Its participation in this race reflects the commitment of Mercedes-Benz Classic to upholding the traditions of the brand, which itself has a remarkable history in motor racing, and encouraging private drivers to take part in historical motorsport events. Mercedes-Benz Classic is a partner of the FHR race series.
