The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is the established name given to an entire commercial vehicle class based around the gross vehicle weight of 3.5 t. Whether being used as a classic service vehicle, as an operation vehicle for highway services or as a versatile load carrier in the municipal services sector, the highly adaptable van is being increasingly recommended for the most demanding of municipal services applications.
The Sprinter 513 CDI dropside van with crewcab - which can be seen on the Mercedes-Benz stand at this year's Ifat Entsorga exhibition - impresses not only with its powerful performance and generous load area, but also with its high levels of safety and ergonomics, as well as its comfortable interior.
With three wheelbases, two cab variants and eight different dropside van variants available ex factory, the sprinter dropside van offers optimum solutions for almost every transport task. The modern CDI engines and the optional BlueEfficiency package help to ensure low consumption and CO2 emissions. The Sprinter on display at the environmental trade show is fitted with the EEV variant of the 95 kW (129 hp) OM 651 engine, as well as an automatic transmission. For maximum safety when out on the road, the vehicle is also fitted with the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) in conjunction with ABS, ASR, EBD and Brake Assist (BAS). Thanks to an optimised suspension, ergonomic controls and numerous innovative driver assistance systems, the Sprinter is safe and easy to handle.
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 513 CDI with crewcab has a gross vehicle weight of 5000 kg, and also comes with additional equipment and accessories for winter service. Popular in the municipal services sector, the variant with crewcab provides room for up to seven people including the driver and a load capacity of up to 2610 kg. As such it is the ideal vehicle for team projects. It comes as standard with four doors for ease of entry/exit, a folding four-seat rear bench complete with plenty of storage space and three-point seat belts and also central locking.
Sprinter 513 CDI with lightweight snowplough from Schmidt Winterdienst- und Kommunaltechnik
The fact that the Sprinter is highly suited to a wide variety of municipal services tasks is clearly demonstrated by the variant which comes with the winter services equipment. The specialists from the company Schmidt Winterdienst- und Kommunaltechnik have fitted the Sprinter 513 CDI crewcab base model with a 270 kg lightweight SNK 24 snowplough, which features a clearing width of around 2100 mm. Thanks to an integrated plough detection sensor, the maximum speed of the vehicle is set at 65 km/h when the snowplough is mounted, and the winter service lights are also switched on. The snowplough and dumper bed are operated via a compact electrohydraulic drive assembly, while a hydraulic control unit is responsible for functions such as raising, lowering and pivoting. A multifunction control panel with control display facilitates ease of operation and provides the driver with a clear overview.
