The Setra brand from DaimlerChrysler Buses & Coaches is on show in Hall 16 of the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show 2006 with a total of ten vehicles from its current product line. The highlight is the world premiere of the new MultiClass 400 low-floor rural buses. All the Setra buses at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover have BlueTec diesel technology based on SCR and comply with the EU emissions standard Euro 4.
World premiere: MultiClass 400 NF low-floor rural bus
The new low-floor product range comprises the 11.95-metre-long S 415 NF, offered with two or three doors, as well as the 13-metre-long three-door S 416 NF. The vehicle bodies feature dynamic styling with smooth, flowing lines, and the look of the front of the vehicles is typical of the brand. Equally characteristic is the aluminium design element above the front right wheel arch. In the interior, curved luggage racks, grab rails, glazed dividing walls and halogen spotlights in the door area create a friendly ambience. As in the UL, passengers enjoy the benefits of the new “Transit” passenger seats. It is very robust and available in many variants. The driver workspace is integrated into a cabin and meets the requirements of the Association of German Transport Undertakings (VDV). The selection of available door variants is just as broad as the range of integrated destination displays. The possibilities include pneumatically operated outward-swinging doors, electrically controlled swinging-sliding doors and inward swinging doors.
Outstanding manoeuvrability, weight greatly reduced
Because of a slightly reduced wheelbase and a new independent suspension at the front axle, the turning circle of the S 415 NF is only 20.83 metres, and therefore smaller than that of the predecessor model. With the standard 11 R 22.5 tyres, the step-up height at the front is 360 mm and at the middle door 380 mm. The weight of the bus was reduced by about 500 kg to 11,750 kg. The new low-floor buses come with the horizontal six-cylinder in-line Mercedes-Benz OM 457 hLA as standard equipment. It is available in output ratings of 220 kW (299 hp) and 260 kW (354 hp). The compact in-line six-cylinder Mercedes-Benz OM 906 hLA with 210 kW (286 hp) is also offered. The standard equipment includes an automatic transmission from Voith, and automatic transmissions from ZF are available as an option. Likewise, there are standard disc brakes all round, as well as the electronic braking system EBS.
World premiere: the compact Setra S 412 UL
Another world premiere is the 10.8-metre-long Setra S 412 UL, a very compact and manoeuvrable rural bus that extends the range of the MultiClass 400. Because of the different seating and equipment variants and the choice between straight regular-service bus front-end and sloping coach front, the S 412 UL is equally suitable for long excursions and short trips.
Sheer luxury: Setra S 416 HDH in “Luxury Edition”
A special highlight among the premium coaches at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show 2006 is the Setra S 416 HDH in a “Luxury Edition.” The three-axle luxury bus is on exhibit in Hanover with a 2+1 seating arrangement, flat floor and with state-of-the-art multimedia equipment. From the TopClass 400, Setra will also present the compact S 411 HD, the S 415 HD and the double-decker S 431 DT. The highly profitable vehicles of the ComfortClass 400 also focus on safety, sophisticated technology and the highest level of comfort. The buses for combined tourist and rural transport will be represented at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show by a two-axle
S 415 GT-HD and a two-axle S 416 GT-HD/2. The production series comprises buses ranging from the 12.2-metre-long S 415 GT to the 14.05-metre-long S 417 GT-HD.
