The site originally opened in 1971 as Emporia Detroit Diesel as a service store. In 1990 it was bought by Detroit Diesel. Detroit Diesel Corporation was formed and began a succession of stock purchases of the major remanufacturing distributors in North America. These distributors evolved to create the current Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing facilities: Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing-East in Cambridge, Ohio, Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing-West in Tooele, Utah and Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing-Central in Emporia, Kansas.
In 2005, Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing opened its facility in Toluca, Mexico, in response to the growing demand for remanufactured products in that market.
