The Mercedes- Benz plant in Kecskemét is an important part of the global production network for compact cars. This network also encompasses the lead plant in Rastatt, Germany, the BBAC facility in Beijing, China, and the production services provider Valmet Automotive in Uusikaupunki, Finland. The Kecskemét plant flexibly produces three of the five models of the current compact car generation (B‑Class, CLA, and CLA Shooting Brake) on a single assembly line. Kecskemét produces the CLA and the CLA Shooting Brake exclusively for the global market. The Kecskemét plant will also produce the next generation of compact cars in cooperation with the lead plant in Rastatt. The plant is the biggest industrial employer in the region. The facility was opened in March 2012 as the first Mercedes- Benz car plant in Europe outside Germany. By the end of the decade, Daimler will build a second plant in Kecskemét for the flexible production of cars with front-wheel and rear-wheel drives.
