Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc. is the traditional production location for the GLE-, GLS- and GLE Coupe sport utility vehicles, as well as the Mercedes-Maybach GLS for all global markets. The plant is preparing to produce all-electric Mercedes-EQ models, the EQE SUV and EQS SUV, starting in 2022. In the future, these vehicles will be produced on the same line together with SUVs with conventional drive and plug-in hybrid drive.
Around two thirds of the SUVs produced in Alabama are being exported to almost every country in the world and more than 3.6 million vehicles have been built since 1997. Mercedes-Benz Cars has invested more than $6 billion in the Alabama plant and the plant is nearing completion of an additional $1 billion investment earmarked to construct a battery plant and preparing the plant to produce electric passenger cars.
MBUSI currently employs 4,400 Team Members and is responsible for more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
