Golden diesel ring for Daimler employee Award for series introduction of Sideguard Assist

Tragic traffic accidents occur time and again between trucks and cyclists, especially in urban areas.Since truck drivers only have a very restricted view when they are turning right, they often do not see moving or stationary cyclists beside them. The solution is Sideguard Assist that alerts the driver when people are in the blind spot of his exterior mirror. The system works using sensors. Thanks to Sven Ennerst, current Head of the Global Development and Purchasing Organization at Daimler Trucks, this assistant is now in use in every new truck. For this merit, the Daimler employee received the Golden Diesel Ring from the Association of Automotive Journalists. Since 1955, the Association has annually awarded the ring - which contains a fragment of Rudolf Diesel's first test engine - to exceptional personalities who have rendered outstanding services to road safety or to reducing the consequences of accidents.
