And indeed: In test drives at Hockenheim, the new silver arrows were more than two seconds faster than their predecessors over the same course. For comparison: The pole position time for the first race in 2016 was 1:32.344 minutes, while the fastest time for the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM in the 2017 winter tests was 1:30.236 minutes, set by Paul Di Resta. One of the reasons: the changes made to touring cars on the basis of new regulations. More than 70 percent of the installed parts are new. Also in the running for a new record: With the second race on Sunday, Mercedes-AMG Motorsport is celebrating the 400th DTM/ITC race since the plant got involved in 1988. The track record after 398 races: 175 victories (including 101 double victories), 122 pole positions, 520 podium positions, 180 fastest race laps and 1,596 scoring positions.
