Electrified Second battery factory in Kamenz

It's hip to be square - and that's exactly how it looks. No, we are not talking about a famous German brand of chocolate, but the heart of our electric initiative – the traction battery. It is being produced in Kamenz, Saxony – starting mid-2018 in one of the world's largest and most modern battery factories. With the groundbreaking, Daimler has now taken the next step in its electric initiative. In tandem with the existing factory for lithium-ion batteries, the town about 50 kilometers from Dresden will develop into a hub of battery production. The energy storage units will be used in the first EQ production vehicle among others, which will be coming off the assembly lines in the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen by the end of the decade. The Concept EQ already provides a preview today of what's in store. In addition, Daimler AG is investing in the future: Over the next few years, ten billion euros will be spent on the expansion of the electric fleet of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
