Digitization, Industry 4.0, automotive revolution — these are all buzzwords that have been accompanying us at Daimler for some time now. In this process, it is important to us to continuously inform our employees about new developments and show them the digital transformation at Daimler. For this purpose, we have the DigitalLife Day.
In 2017 the DigitalLife Day took place for the third time. About thousand interested Daimler employees came to Ludwigsburg near Stuttgart. And it was quite an agenda.
Information, Innovation, and Inspiration!
DigitalLife Day has three objectives: information, innovation, and inspiration. One day's schedule was packed with information for our employees about the most recent digital topics, trends, and innovations. We also gave them the opportunity to talk to experts and colleagues, exchange information, and be inspired to link up for future collaborations. Moreover, in an ideas competition ten teams of employees had the chance to pitch their ideas about digital services and participate in the creation of digital transformation at Daimler.
If you give precise instructions, the best you can hope for is what you expected. If you give the team more freedom, ideas may arise that go much, much further. The purpose of the DigitalLife Day is to find and promote exactly these kinds of ideas.
This year we focused on #transform, #ideate, #collaborate, and #change on four stages with exactly these names to represent the entire bandwidth of digital transformation at Daimler. Attendees had the opportunity to take part in inspiring expert talks and chats by the fireplace about digital trends, they were able to experience interactive panel discussions, and be inspired by around 40 international speakers on topics including transformation, collaboration, as well as fail and learn. One of the highlights of the event: the very entertaining talk about the future of mobility and media as part of the digital transformation panel. Participants: Dieter Zetsche and Kai Diekmann.
Trends from Around the World
Also on the agenda: 32 "market stalls" featuring experts from Germany, China, USA, and India. The topic: digital innovations that are already making our lives easier today. This was where employees were able to experience the full bandwidth of digital innovations at Daimler. From an integration of augmented reality in vehicles, to new mobility offers, such as "Croove", "car2go", and "moovel", as well as intelligent fleet management solutions, for instance "Fleetboard", and a "Workshop for the future of professional training" with trainees demonstrating their talents in terms of "Industry 4.0". Particularly exciting were the state-of-the-art news from around the globe. These included responses to questions, such as "why is WeChat considered the mother of all digital tools in China?", "what will the Workplace 2020 look like in India?", and "which ideas will be implemented as part of the MBUSA/MBRDNA Incubator?".
The DigitalLife Day has demonstrated that digitalization is full of potential – just like our employees.
