Every 1.2 seconds a car2go smart or Mercedes-Benz is in use somewhere in the world. That’s not surprising, as it couldn’t be easier: any available vehicle from car2go can be spontaneously rented using a smartphone, without stress or fixed costs. At the end of the journey, the car can be parked at any location within the appropriate district. The customer only pays for the duration of the journey - charged per minute.
Flexible carsharing reduces traffic in towns and cities, frees up valuable parking space and improves air quality. car2go therefore contributes to an increase in the quality of life, while at the same time precisely meeting the mobility requirements of those who live in the towns and cities.
26 locations in eight countries
car2go is an important pillar within the Daimler mobility strategy. The world's leading provider of free-floating carsharing now operates in 26 locations in eight countries on three continents. Today, more than 3 million customers can access the fleet of 14,000 vehicles of the smart and Mercedes-Benz brands.
And, this is how easy it is: online registration and validation is carried out in the car2go app or website. After entering the personal data and payment information, the customer is asked for a photo of him/herself and his/her driver's license. After a security check, during which the consistency of the data is checked, an email confirms the successful validation. This means that the customer is then immediately able to rent a vehicle from car2go. The personal contact points are still available for those who prefer the classical validation method.
car2go in China: “JiXing” – “set off immediately”
In April 2016, car2go opened its first Asian location in Chongqing in the south west of China. In the meantime, it has become apparent: flexible carsharing also works in the Middle Kingdom. There is a huge demand for the now 600 smart fortwo car2go vehicles which are on the streets of Chongqing under the brand name “JiXing” (“set off immediately”). The metropolis has thus quickly established itself as the largest car2go location worldwide.
The European locations are operated by the joint venture company car2go Europe GmbH (shares: 75% Daimler, 25% Europcar), and in North America by car2go North America LLC. The Chongqing location in China is operated by car2go China Co., Ltd. under the umbrella of Mercedes-Benz Auto Finance Ltd.
