Sprinter: a wide range of variants and an integrated system solution
With more than 3.4 million vehicles supplied in 130 countries, the Sprinter is an absolute hit – a true global player that already covers an amazing range of country- and industry-specific requirements. This success story goes back over more than 20 years. The third generation of the big van from Mercedes-Benz Vans comes with a plethora of new product features designed to serve specific market segments even more capably.
In the Sprinter, Mercedes-Benz Vans is offering an integrated system solution for vans for the first time. The vehicle is fully networked, with connectivity hardware coming as standard and Mercedes PRO connect services available as an option. The new connectivity solution combined with the new MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) multimedia system results in a tangible reduction in the administrative burden relating to the vehicle fleet. The web-based service links the fleet manager with all vehicles and drivers in the fleet via the Vehicle Management Tool. This enables assignments to be managed online and vehicle information such as location, fuel level or maintenance intervals to be retrieved virtually in real time. This allows the fleet manager to gain a comprehensive overview of the fleet quickly and easily.
The new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is up to any transport task: numerous variants can be configured via basic parameters such as body type, drive concept, cab design, body length, tonnage and load area height. This variability makes the Sprinter the perfect vehicle for all manner of transport requirements and sectors. The chassis variants, especially the new tractor head, mean that the Sprinter is the ideal base for body solutions from the camper van sector.
Along with the familiar rear-wheel and all-wheel drive systems, the third generation of the large van from Mercedes-Benz Vans will also be available with front-wheel drive. For reasons inherent in the design, the payload of this version increases by 50 kilograms compared to the rear-wheel drive variant. Another new feature for this variant is an 80-millimetre reduction in the height of the load compartment sill, which makes loading and unloading more convenient. Two newly developed transmissions are available for the front-wheel drive: a 9-speed automatic torque converter transmission – an innovation in the large van segment – and a newly developed 6-speed manual transmission.
eSprinter to follow in 2019
Mercedes-Benz Vans is set to offer locally emission-free electric drive systems and will consistently pursue the electrification of its product portfolio. This is starting with the eVito, which has already been available on the market since 2018. The eVito will be followed by the eSprinter during the course of this year (2019). At this year’s IAA in Frankfurt am Main, Mercedes-Benz Vans presented the EQV (Combined power consumption: 26.4-26.3 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km. * **) – the world’s first purely battery-electric MPV in the premium segment. The vehicle offers a range of up to 400 km without compromising the usability of its interior space. The electric models aren’t just good for the environment, they also offer the customer tangible added value due to their suitability for everyday use and versatility.
Vito: the versatile multi-talent among mid-size vans
Since its market launch in 1995, the Mercedes-Benz Vito has been synonymous with versatile mid-size vans. In the trades and retail sectors, as a service vehicle and as a delivery van, versatility, flexibility and a well-balanced price-performance ratio make the Mercedes-Benz Vito a truly successful vehicle. By expanding its product range, Mercedes-Benz Vans has now made its best-seller from the mid-size vans segment even better. Among the highlights are a generation of high-torque four-cylinder diesel engines for the Vito Tourer with passenger car approval. In comparison to the previous generation, the OM 654 engine family reduces emissions and consumption figures whilst also optimising noise and vibration comfort. In line with the sales release in March 2019, the power units already familiar from the Mercedes-Benz passenger car range will see their first ever usage in a commercial vehicle at Mercedes-Benz Vans.
eVito: fit for urban use
As a panel van for goods transport or as a tourer (combined energy consumption: 26.1 – 20.2 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km)** for passenger transport, the new eVito is designed primarily for use in urban environments. An installed battery capacity of 41 kWh makes for a range of around 150 km. Even in unfavourable conditions such as cold winter weather, customers can expect to achieve a range of approx. 100 kilometres. The full range is available again after just six hours of recharging. The battery-electric drive delivers 85 kW and can attain a torque figure of up to 300 Newton metres, which is optimally tailored to urban operations.
The top speed can be configured according to the intended use at the time of ordering. If the eVito is used predominantly in the city, a maximum speed of 80 km/h conserves energy while increasing the range. Alternatively, a top speed of up to 120 km/h can also be configured. The mid-size van can be ordered as a panel van or tourer in two different lengths: as a basic version with an overall length of 5140 millimetres and as an extra-long version at 5370 millimetres.
It was clear from the considerable pre-launch interest in this new form of mobility that, with the eVito, the new model offering meets customer expectations: positive customer feedback, backed up by the extensive use of the free eVAN Ready App, which can be tested online, affirms the extent of the role that battery-electric models can play in the vehicle fleet.
Citan: the economical and individual all-rounder among the urban delivery vans
Mercedes-Benz Vans has been offering the Citan since 2012. This small van with compact dimensions and a large load compartment is ideal for the wide range of challenges encountered about town and in leisure time. The main foundations for its success were laid by the combination of high functionality and economy, its extensive safety and assistance systems and excellent ride comfort. This has now been significantly reinforced thanks to a new engine generation. With immediate effect, the Citan Tourer can be ordered with a high-torque four-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 1.5 litres, new six-speed manual transmission and SCR technology.
