We are convinced that people are more motivated, more powerful and more satisfied if they can contribute their personality and identity as they are. That is why we demand and promote equal opportunity and a culture of appreciation and respect. For us, it doesn't matter where our employees come from, for example, what gender they have or whom they love.
Diversity is the driving force behind our ideas, renewal and spirit of invention; it increases our innovation potential and our creativity. Inclusion for us means involving and treating everyone equally by dealing with the diversity of our employees in a conscious, integrative, and respectful manner.
At Daimler we value the diversity of our workforce. For our global business, we make the most of different experiences, skills, and perspectives. Our workforce reflects the diversity of our customers, suppliers, investors, and our general environment. Everyone at Daimler is committed to a working environment of appreciation and mutual respect. It is how we shape our company's future.
All members of the Daimler Board of Management support our diversity statement and actively help to implement the principles enshrined in it:
- Celebrating our differences. We respect and value the diversity of our employees. We encourage them to contribute this diversity to the company.
- Creating connections. We benefit from the diverse experience, skills and perspectives of our employees around the world. They reflect the diversity of our customers, suppliers and investors.
- Shaping the future. Every one of us helps to create a working environment characterized by appreciation and mutual respect. Together we are shaping the future of Daimler along these lines.
Our Fields of Action
Our three fields of action, Best Mix, Working Culture and Customer Access, are at the foundation for a corporate culture in which diversity can unfold.
Best Mix: We form mixed teams – based on equal opportunity and non-discrimination. Because diverse perspectives make us successful.
Working Culture: We create a work environment characterized by appreciation and respect, and offer opportunities for a better work-life balance.
Customer Access: We understand and value our customers in their individuality. Our goal: Enabling people to experience mobility that fits to them and their life.
We make clear statements and commit ourselves to promoting diversity - in the company and in society. For this, we work on our own internal initiatives or collaborate with other organizations.
We champion equal opportunity for men and women. Our goal: By the year 2020, we would like to increase the share of women in senior management positions at Daimler to at least 20 percent. Women at Daimler are supported in their individual career planning by a great number of measures.
Employing people with severe disabilities is more than just an obligation for Daimler. With our inclusion agreement, we create and maintain jobs for severely disabled employees and ensure that they can participate in working life.
As a founding member and first signatory of the Charter of Diversity we are working together with other companies to bring the debate on diversity management in Germany forward.
Daimler is part of the first global initiative specifically addressing the issue of promoting and empowering women in business: The UN Women’s Empowerment Principles. They include seven guidelines on equality for women. By signing, Daimler has committed itself to integrating the principles into the company's practice.
Our accession to the initiative of the United Nations for combating discrimination against homosexuals, bisexuals, transgenders and intersexuals is a sign for the rights of the LGBTI+ Community.
With the signing of the HIV Declaration of the German AIDS Federation, we are taking a strong stand for respectful and non-discriminatory treatment of HIV-positive persons.
