Overcoming structural barriers, creating role model functions, and acting as ambassadors for diversity and tolerance. With the "GEH DEINEN WEG" scholarship program, the Deutschlandstiftung Integration foundation (DSI) has set itself the task of supporting young migrants in their everyday lives. Daimler is one of many companies that have been supporting the scholarship program since 2016.
People only achieve their full potential if they feel accepted and welcome as individuals. That is why DSI works for people with migration backgrounds, and helps to open doors for them.
Founded in 2008, DSI's goal is to promote integration in Germany. In the foundation's "GEH DEINEN WEG" scholarship program, almost 600 mentors work on behalf of more than 1.000 scholars in eight cohorts. Participation is open to young people with particular school, university or sporting qualifications. When deciding whether or not to accept a candidate, the foundation pays particular attention to their motivation and willingness to assume responsibility within society.
The scholars receive advice from contacts in the fields of industry, politics, culture and public administration for a period of two years. These people assist the youths with all matters relating to their careers and work. Courses help exploit scholars' individual potential. Another benefit is that people from a wide range of backgrounds can network with each other. One of the ways in which they can communicate with each other is via a dialog forum that deals with current social issues relating to migration and society.
The example of Ehsan Allahyar Parsa shows that the program works. He is a participant in the scholarship program, and speaks ten languages. He developed the "rootify" app, which is designed to help people learn foreign languages quickly and easily. "rootify" differs from other language programs in that it is takes the user's mother tongue as a basis.
As part of “GEH DEINEN WEG" program, a Career Day was also offered at Daimler in Untertürkheim. There was the opportunity to find out about various career and entry opportunities during the company presentation. All questions were answered and Daimler's youth development programme was presented. Afterwards we were invited to a "Kamingespräch" with Valeria Gargiulo, Head of HR Development, HR Services & Corporate Organization. Here, too, we "GEH DEINEN WEG" fellows, from the Deutschland Stiftung Integration have gotten again inspiring insights into the fields of activity of one of the world's leading companies in the automotive industry.
