Day of Caring in Saarbrücken Hand in hand for inclusion

In May 2017 employees at Mercedes-Benz Bank in Saarbrücken picked up their tools on the occasion of the Day of Caring to give institutions dedicated to persons with disabilities a fresh look.

All tools, such as spades, brushes, and wheelbarrows had been provided at Rexroth-Höhe residential association near Saarbrücken (Germany), ready to be put to good use. Around 80 employees from the Service Center at Mercedes-Benz Bank lent a hand and took on the job. A new boules pitch, a barbecue area, freshly painted railings as well as fences, and the "village square" have been spruced up with plenty of gardening skills to make life for the around 190 residents more pleasant.

In line with Lebenshilfe Obere Saar charitable association's motto residents helped with the painting and decorating, building and gardening work. Lebenshilfe fosters individual residents' skills to make it easier for them to play an active part in society. How does that help Mercedes-Benz Bank employees? Firstly, it's a good deed and plenty of fun. Secondly, it's a change in perspective – helping people overcome the challenges of life.

"I look forward to the Day of Caring each year, to me it's fun as a team, a change from the everyday and it gives us the feeling of having made a difference. It's nice every time to see what we have done at the end of the day. It brings us together.", explains Kaja Lutz, Assistant at the Service Center Saarbrücken.

Day of Caring Daimler Financial Services offers its employees a broad range of corporate volunteering opportunities.
