In the spirit of Christmas: Daimler employees wrap presents for children

Packages were again filled, wrapped, collected, and given as gifts in 2016: this was already the seventh year for the "Give a smile" Christmas campaign, which sees Daimler employees pack boxes for underprivileged children, and distribute them with the help of aid organizations.

The number of employees who fill and wrap colorful packages at the participating Daimler locations for the Daimler "Give a smile" Christmas campaign keeps growing from year to year. This year, the joy of giving was again even greater than the year before. More than 18,000 packages were collected in all, whose purpose is to make children's eyes light up.

I want to thank our colleagues very much. The tremendous response shows that the people who work here have a heart and a sense of social responsibility. This makes us very proud. These presents will enable us to give a little bit of Christmas joy to many children

Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars

As every year, the Give-a-smile trucks toured the company's locations in the greater Stuttgart area and collected the Christmas presents with the assistance of volunteer helpers from the various units and departments. They are abundantly filled with toys, coloring books, colored pencils, hats, gloves, candy, and much more. Hatice Yildirim has been working on her thesis at Daimler since October 2016, and she is one of the helping hands:

I think it is fantastic that Daimler provides this campaign. That so many employees take part is overwhelming. All kids should be able to feel of the joy of getting a present at Christmastime – no matter if they're rich or poor.

German aid organizations such as the Schwäbische Tafel Stuttgart e.V., the Berlin City Mission, the Children's Hospice Saar, as well as a host of orphanages and pediatric hospitals, will distribute the presents just before Christmas. "Economically disadvantaged children feel their underprivileged status more than ever at special times like Christmas. Thanks to the presents wrapped by the Daimler employees, we can give the children a little bit of joy", says Ingrid Poppe from Schwäbische Tafel Stuttgart e.V.
