New playground for small patients

A bit of distraction for sick children. According to Laubenberger, medical director of the Ortenau clinic in Offenburg, "our small patients need more than medicine".The Daimler-Initiative ProCent supports the pediatric clinic in the construction of a new playground

First Kids on the new playground

Once discovered, a playground quickly becomes a magical point of attraction where children take over the climbing scaffold or the sandboxes. At playgrounds, children have a chance to find out what they can do physically, to acquire new skills and to experience their own limits.

Depending on their age and medical conditions, the playground can open up a world full of fantasy to the children. Be it by baking the most delicious sand cakes or conquering the highest fortress.

Dr. Christoph Jopen, Chairman of the Promotion Association for the pediatric clinic describes the playground as a place "where children, who are perhaps in a difficult situation, can be somewhat distracted and parents can relax." Being in the clinic is unpleasant for everybody and can prove to be a traumatic experience for children. An attractive playground and fresh air can help and influence the healing process positively.

However, in 2016, the playground on the premises of the Ortenau Clinic in Offenbach-Gengenbach only had dilapidated playthings to offer. That's why the Offenburg Hospital Association asked for donations. Subsequently, the Daimler employee initiative ProCent donated close to 10,000 euros to the Offenburg Hospital Association. Thanks to this and other donations, a new playground with an area of 250 square meters equipped with a slide, a game area for toddlers, different seesaws, a swing and balancing equipment was inaugurated in the spring of 2017

We are glad that we were able to complete the playground thanks to the numerous donations and can now hand it over for its intended use. Playing helps children to process traumatic experiences, such as a hospital stay, and can contribute to their recovery
