Details of the project: Mercedes-Benz Türk’s social responsibility project “Each Girl is a Star”, was created in co-operation with the “Association in Support of Contemporary Living” (Çağdaş Yaşamı Destekleme Derneği- ÇYDD) in 2004. The project aims to encourage financially disadvantaged but hard-working female students to attend vocational schools. With this project Mercedes-Benz Türk is promoting equality for women in traditionally male-dominated sectors by supporting students in vocational education, by offering scholarships & internships and by recruiting successful students into the automotive sector when they have completed their education. The long-term aim is to increase the number of female students who attend vocational schools. Besides supporting the students in vocational education the aim of the project is also to support their personal development by inviting them to the company, where they can gain access to soft skills and communication skills.
As of 2016, there are 3.949 girls across Turkey from 56 different cities who received scholarships by the support of Mercedes-Benz Türk, as well as its dealers, suppliers and employees. 1.933 girls graduated from vocational schools so far. 765 girls passed the university exceptance exam, 147 students graduated from universities. In 2007 Mercedes-Benz Türk started offering scholarships to “star girls” who continue their education at universities. As of today 472 female students received university scholarships.
Upon completion of education, graduates are given chance of possible employment within Mercedes-Benz Türk its dealers and suppliers in case there is a demand and students meet the requirements. So far, 20 female students have been employed by Mercedes-Benz Türk, and two girls have been employed by our dealers upon their graduation.
In May 2006, the project was awarded “The Best Social Responsibility Project” by the prestigious Turkish business monthly “Platin”. In May 2007, “Each Girl is a Star” won best project award in Corporate Social Responsibility - Education category at the 6th Golden Compass Public Relations Awards, annually organized by the Turkish Public Relations Association (TUHID). In January 2010, the project was again awarded “The Best Social Responsibility Project” by the Automotive Distributors Association – ODD.
