The endowment chair will be funded by the Daimler fund in the Donors' Association with a view to the promotion of research on truck engines of the future. The new endowment chair for electrified commercial vehicle drive concepts will give the technical university a unique position in Germany since a comparable professorship is not in existence anywhere else in the country. Martin Zeilinger, Head of Pre-Development of Daimler Trucks, on the new master's degree program: "With the endowment chair at the applied technical university in Esslingen we intend to continue driving forward with the future topic of electrified drivetrains for commercial vehicles. We also see the new chair in Esslingen as a pledge to the scientific location Germany and the Stuttgart metropolitan area."
The goal of the collaboration between the technical university and Daimler is to firmly establish the study of future technologies in Germany. Daimler experts have been active as instructors at the technical university for many years and impart their practical knowledge to the students in workshops. In addition, Daimler supports research projects of the technical university on an ongoing basis. Many graduates of the automotive technology school get jobs with the automotive manufacturer after graduation.
The Daimler Fund in the Donors' Association has been promoting interdisciplinary research projects since 1993 with the aim of disseminating scientific knowledge and making a decisive contribution to the designing of a responsible future that will benefit society as a whole. The technical university of Esslingen is currently attended by more than 6,000 young people who study in eleven disciplines. The topic areas of sustainability and environmental protection are assigned high priority. More than 50 state-of-the-art laboratories at three locations are available.
